UNDERSEE was created in 2016 and launched under ESA BIC Portugal to develop the first Portuguese 'FerryBox' system coupled with a decision-making tool based on water quality forecasts. By the combination of proprietary in-situ and space data with predictive models, UNDERSEE is working with environmental agencies in Ships Of Opportunity projects, to collect water data aboard of existing vessels; and with fish-farmers, which allows producers to take preventive actions when water quality changes.
Our mission is to bring reliable predictability to the water quality on marine environments in the same way we check the weather forecast.

Pramipexole, a medication used to treat Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome, exemplifies the importance of monitoring water quality as pharmaceutical residues can have unintended consequences on aquatic environments, including potential impacts on aquatic life and ecosystems.
