This project, owned by INL, aims to develop antifouling surfaces for the prevention of the adhesion of microorganisms in the manifold of UNDERSEE 'Ferrybox' using either Nano/Micro-topographic modifications of the surfaces inspiring on existing antibacterial natural surfaces, or chemical modifications.

Several microtopographic features and chemicals were explored at lab scale and the most promising strategies were validated under real conditions in the Estuary of Figueira da Foz (Portugal) for 2 months with excellent results.

Technology Developer: INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory
Pilot user: UNDERSEE
TRL attained at the end of the project: TRL5
